Abstract
Objectives to evaluate the diagnostic performance of gastric antrum cross-sectional area (CSA) measured by ultrasound in predicting gastric residual volume (GRV) in mechanically ventilated patients receiving enteral nutrition (EN) in intensive care unit (ICU). Background Accurate assessment of GRV is essential in determining feeding tolerance in critically ill patients. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between antral CSA and aspirated GRV and assess the diagnostic accuracy of antral CSA in identifying patients with GRV ≥250 ml. Methods 56 mechanically ventilated patients receiving EN in ICU were included. Antral CSA measurements were obtained using ultrasound, and GRV was aspirated through the enteral feeding tube. Prokinetic drugs were administered as needed. Demographic data, clinical characteristics, and ICU outcomes were recorded. Results Patients were categorized into normal feeding and feeding intolerance groups based on GRV. Antral CSA showed a significant correlation with aspirated GRV (p
