Abstract

Objectives: To Study Thyroid Functions Among Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Patients

Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is one of the most common chronic liver diseases. Given the lack of definitive documentation for the effect of thyroid gland disorders on fatty liver, this study was conducted to determine the relationship between serum thyroid hormone levels and fatty liver in patients

Methods: A Cross Sectional Comparative Study was conducted on 100 patients with NAFLD during a period from November 2022 to October 2023. After taking pts consent and according to ethical consideration in hepatology outpatient clinics, inpatient ward, and intensive care unit at Menoufia University hospital.

Results: Weight and WC were significantly increased among group I than group II. Total cholesterol and triglycerides were significantly increased among group I than group II. Also, LDL-C was significantly increased among group I (80) than group II (20). ALT and AST were significantly increased among group I than group II. TSH was significantly increased among group I than group II. While FT4 was significantly decreased among group I than group II. Regarding thyroid status, there was a significant difference among the studied groups, euthyroid and hypothyroid were found in of group I respectively. APRI score was significantly increased among group I than group II. The Fib-4 score was significantly increased among group I than group II

Conclusion: Hypothyroidism is more prevalent among patients with NAFLD compared to controls and might be a risk factor for NAFLD. NAFLD with Hypothyroidism May impact the development of liver fibrosis.
