Abstract
Objectives to assess the effectiveness of prophylactic mesh at stoma site to prevent of parastomal hernia development. Background complications of parastomal hernia after stoma creation are: pain, obstruction, strangulation that require urgent intervention. Also surgical repair of may be challenging with risk of recurrence. Methods This randomized clinical trial included 46 patients who were diagnosed with colorectal cancer and underwent abdominoperineal resection and were indicated for permanent stoma in Menoufia university hospital during the period between April 2022 to April 2023. Patients were randomized over two groups mesh versus non-mesh. Follow up was done for a year postoperatively to assess development of hernia at stoma site.
