Abstract

Objective This work aims at comparing the 1-year follow-up results of one-anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB) and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) in terms of efficacy and safety. Background Bariatric surgery is the best option for morbidly obese patients to control weight and improve obesity-related comorbidities. LSG is one of the most popular bariatric procedures. OAGB is rapidly emerging as a safe and effective metabolic procedure. Patients and methods A retrospective cohort study was conducted on 30 morbidly obese patients who underwent OAGB and LSG operations, at General Surgery Department, Menoufia University, from June 2020 to December 2021 with a 1-year follow-up. All patients were aged between 18 and 65 years. The results were compared regarding operative outcomes, weight loss, improvement in comorbidities, nutritional deficiency (ND), and complications. Results The mean baseline BMI for the OAGB and LSG group was 48.775.87 and 48.376.5 kg/m2, respectively. The percentage of excess weight loss for OAGB versus LSG was 93.396.38% versus 75.5614.8% at 1 year (P
